For nearly two years, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied militias have carried out mass killings, sexual violence, and the destruction of entire communities across Darfur. Non-Arab Black African groups like the Masalit, Fur, and Zaghawa are being targeted simply for who they are. Villages have been wiped out. Families have been separated. Millions have been forced to flee with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
In January 2025, the U.S. officially declared that the RSF and its militias are committing genocide. Human rights organizations have documented massacres, burned neighborhoods, mass graves, and horrific attacks on women and children. Recent satellite images from El-Fasher show the scale of the killings as thousands of civilians are trapped and targeted.

This is one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world and hardly anyone is talking about it.
Sudan needs attention. Sudan needs action. Sudan needs all of us to speak up. ALL EYES ON SUDAN
What’s Really Happening in Sudan - The Quick Breakdown
Sudan is facing one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world right now and it’s not random war. It’s targeted violence with deep historical roots, especially in Darfur.
A Crisis With History Behind It
The violence in Darfur didn’t start today. In the 2000s, over 200,000 people were killed and millions displaced when militias linked to Omar al-Bashir targeted non-Arab ethnic groups.
Those same militias eventually evolved into the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the group now accused of leading today’s atrocities.
Why People Are Calling It Genocide Now
RSF and allied militias are specifically targeting non-Arab communities like the Masalit, Fur, Zaghawa and others.
Reports show mass killings, rape, torture, village burnings, and forced displacement, all aimed at removing these groups from their land.
The U.S. government has officially labeled the violence genocide, citing deliberate, coordinated attacks on specific ethnic populations.
Major Atrocities Reported
Entire communities wiped out in places like El-Fasher, Al-Kadaris, Misterei, and other towns.
Survivors describe executions, sexual violence, homes burned to the ground, and families forced to flee with nothing.
A Massive Displacement Crisis
Nearly 14 million people have been displaced, one of the largest displacement crises on the planet.
Neighborhoods are being destroyed, aid is blocked, and food, water, and medical care are extremely limited.
The International Response
Sudan has taken the issue to the International Court of Justice, accusing the UAE of supporting RSF forces.
Human rights groups describe what’s happening as ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.
But access is limited, evidence is hard to collect, and global action has been slow.
Why This Matters
This is not just another conflict, it’s a deliberate attempt to remove entire ethnic groups from their land.
Millions of people need urgent help, and accountability is critical to stopping future atrocities.
