Houston Declares “Lyrikal Day,” Honoring International Soca Artist Lyrikal for Music and Community Impact

August 22 Officially Recognized as “Lyrikal Day” in Celebration of His Contributions to Soca, Caribbean Culture and Community Service

HOUSTON / NEW YORK — August 2026 — International Soca artist Lyrikal is celebrating a major career and community milestone after being honored in Houston with an official proclamation recognizing August 22 as “Lyrikal Day.”

The recognition came during the Trinidad & Tobago Association of Texas (TTAT) 2026 Independence Celebration in Houston. According to the announcement, the honor recognizes Lyrikal’s contributions to Soca and Caribbean culture, along with his continued commitment to education, philanthropy and community service.

Giving Back Through Education

As part of his partnership with TTAT, Lyrikal committed to sponsoring two $1,000 scholarships for deserving students. He also donated his performance fee from the Independence Celebration back to the organization to support its educational and community initiatives.

The recognition comes during a significant period of community engagement for the Trinidadian artist.

On August 16, Lyrikal continued his commitment to youth through his 12th Annual Back-to-School Giveaway in Brooklyn, presented in partnership with the Caribbean American Center of New York. The initiative provided children and families with free backpacks, school supplies, music, games and activities.

From Houston to Brooklyn

Just one day after receiving his Houston honor, Lyrikal returned to Brooklyn on August 23 to perform at Angela Yee Day, where he delivered the event’s only Soca performance.

His high-energy set had the crowd singing and dancing alongside a Caribbean lineup featuring Cham, Vanessa Bling, Ding Dong, Tina Hood (Celebrity) and others.

For Lyrikal, the Houston proclamation arrives at a moment when his music career and community work continue to intersect, bringing greater attention to the role Caribbean artists can play beyond the stage.

The milestone also comes as Lyrikal celebrates the 10th anniversary of his debut studio album, The Journey.

Released on July 22, 2016, the 20-track project featured fan favorites including “Cloud 9,” “25/8” and “Loner,” with collaborations involving Kes, Keshia & Kerwin Du Bois, according to the press release.

Since The Journey, Lyrikal has continued to develop his catalog and career, releasing three studio albums in total and establishing himself as a consistent voice in Soca music.
