Dancehall Star Popcaan Honored With Chief Title in Ghana

Updated: Feb 21

Dancehall superstar Popcaan is adding a powerful new title to his name — and it’s not from the music charts this time. The Jamaican hitmaker has officially been recognised in Ghana, where he was crowned a sub-chief and given the title “Nana Okofo Akro Kese.”

The honour came during a recent visit to the West African nation, where the entertainer took part in a traditional ceremony celebrating his connection to the country and its culture. The title translates roughly to “Great Warrior Chief,” a recognition of leadership and influence.

Popcaan shared the moment with fans on social media, posting photos and videos from the ceremony while expressing gratitude and love for the people of Ghana.

This isn’t the first time the Unruly Boss has shown love for the country. Over the years, he has made several trips to Ghana and built strong ties there. Back in 2019, he visited during the historic “Year of the Return” initiative, which encouraged people from the African diaspora to reconnect with their roots.

Beyond the celebration, the title also carries responsibility. In Ghanaian tradition, chieftaincy roles are seen as positions of influence, often tied to community leadership and cultural representation.

Fans across the Caribbean and Africa have been celebrating the moment online, calling it another example of the deep cultural bond between Jamaica and Ghana.

With music success, global recognition, and now a traditional honour, Popcaan continues to prove that his influence reaches far beyond dancehall.

One thing is clear, the Unruly Boss is making moves worldwide. 🔥
